If you missed the new Modifier section last year, be sure to check it out now—Look for separate instructions for physician modifiers and hospital modifiers!
New for 2002, the relocated fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy codes are explained along with separate coding guidelines for physician and hospital reporting. Additional codes and guidelines for accompanying imaging guidance alert the coder to report the appropriate imaging code in addition.

Vascular access / hemodialysis access—new and revised codes with provider-specific guidelines are included for these high volume procedures. Tips for distinguishing between standard venous access and implantable venous access foster optimal reimbursement for each provider-type.
Bone marrow aspiration and bone marrow biopsies—new CPT codes, now relocated in the Surgery section, are each explained along with insider tips on how to distinguish between an aspiration and a bone marrow biopsy. Also, what to report when both are performed at the same session.
Intestinal resection via laparoscopy—understand how to code and report multiple, separate intestinal resections at the same operative session. Learn how to distinguish among each type of resection listed in this code category.
All new Pediatric hernia repairs—learn the definition of "post-conceptual" age in these codes, how to calculate it and how to select the right code.

Lesion destruction codes now include explanations of every method of destruction listed in the CPTÔ book.
New, updated guidelines for coding breast biopsy include specific, detailed coding instructions for both physician and hospital reporting. Easy to understand instructions for each type of biopsy.
New Trigger Point injection codes—for appropriate reimbursement, CPT Coding Made Easy explains how to distinguish among each of the codes in this category and how to report them correctly.
All laryngoscopy codes, including revised codes, are detailed along with information to help coders distinguish among these sometimes confusing codes. Indirect, direct, direct operative, and flexible fiberoptic methods are individually explained for accurate coding.
Vascular surgery—includes revisions to aneurysm and bypass graft procedures.
GI endoscopies and colonoscopies—every method for control of hemorrhage is described with each code, including heater probes and the new plasma coagulator procedure.
Amniocentesis—therapeutic versus diagnostic. New code 59001 for therapeutic amniotic fluid reduction is explained along with clinical indications and coding guidelines.
Radiology—important revisions for specific imaging plus changes necessitated by 2002 CPT errata.
